A positive mental attitude is absolutely necessary to ensure your success. You can make the seemingly impossible – possible by developing a positive mindset. Here’s how to fix that and operate at your full potential…

 

1. Can Lack Of Sleep Cause You To Be Overly Emotional?

Absolutely. If you’re feeling overly emotional, you’re probably not getting enough sleep. Lack of sleep can prevent you from thinking clearly and keeping your emotions on an even keel. Studies show that excessive sleepiness can hurt work performance, wreak havoc on relationships, and lead to mood problems like anger and depression.

Albert Einstein attributed his brilliant mind to having a child-like sense of humour. Indeed, a number of studies have found an association between humour and intelligence

Researchers in Austria recently discovered that funny people, particularly those who enjoy dark humour, have higher IQs than their less funny peers. They argue that it takes both cognitive and emotional ability to process and produce humour. Their analysis shows that funny people have higher verbal and non-verbal intelligence, and they score lower in mood disturbance and aggressiveness. 

Find humor in bad situations. Allow yourself to experience humour in even the darkest or most trying situations. Remind yourself that this situation will probably make for a good story later and try to crack a joke about it. Turn failures into lessons.

You aren’t perfect. You’re going to make mistakes and experience failure in multiple contexts, at multiple jobs and with multiple people. Instead of focusing on how you failed, think about what you’re going to do next time, turn your failure into a lesson

A sense of humour is an important part of coping with setbacks and adversity. If we’re blessed with a humorous outlook we’re better able to see the ridiculous side of whatever it is we are upset about, making it easier to avoid being swamped by distress.

 

3. Distorted Thinking

  • Why can’t I get a break?
  • My life really sucks.
  • This will never work.
  • Who am I kidding anyway?

This type of thinking reflects a lack of confidence in yourself and a failure to trust in the process of life. As a result, your enjoyment and appreciation of all the good stuff that life has to offer gets distorted, leaving you in a victimised state and ultimately, an unhappy existence. 

Remember, thoughts don’t just happen. They are something we create and therefore we are able to direct them. When something upsetting happens, it’s your thoughts about the situation that will either minimize or magnify the effect it will have on you.

Transform that negative self-talk into positive self-talk.

Negative self-talk can creep up easily and is often hard to notice. You might think I’m so bad at this or I shouldn’t have tried that.

 But these thoughts turn into internalised feelings and might cement your perception of yourself. When you catch yourself doing this, stop and replace those negative messages with positive ones.

 For example, I’m so bad at this becomes, once I get more practice, I’ll be way better at this. I shouldn’t have tried becomes That didn’t work out as planned—maybe next time.

 Drop your distortions. There are negative things in the world. 

We all have cognitive thinking distortions that can alter our perceptions of reality, sometimes causing the negatives to appear fun-house-mirror large. A few common distortions include mind reading, when you assume you know what others think (someone asks you to lunch, for example, and you assume it’s because he feels sorry for you); fortune telling, when you predict the future negatively and then react as if that prediction is imminent (you assume an upcoming company meeting means you’re being let go and begin bad-mouthing your boss and ignoring work); or all or nothing thinking, in which everything is all or nothing (Everyone thinks I am a loser or no one can be trusted). 

Recognise what your distortions are and see whether you can view circumstances through a clearer, more helpful lens.

4. Start Your Day With Positivity

How you start the morning sets the tone for the rest of the day. Have you ever woken up late, panicked, and then felt like nothing good happened the rest of the day?

 This is likely because you started out the day with a negative emotion and a pessimistic view that carried into every other event you experienced. Instead of letting this dominate you, start your day with positive affirmations. Talk to yourself in the mirror, even if you feel silly, with statements like, “Today will be a good day” or “I’m going to be awesome today.” You’ll be amazed how much your day improves.

 Focus on the good things, however small.

Almost invariably, you’re going to encounter obstacles throughout the day—there’s no such thing as a perfect day. When you encounter challenges, focus on the benefits, no matter how slight or unimportant they seem. For example, if you get stuck in traffic, think about how you now have time to listen to the rest of your favourite podcast. If the store is out of the food you want to prepare, think about the thrill of trying something new.

5. Foods to Enhance Your Mood

Eating the foods that follow may be a simple way to boost your spirits, as each is known to have a positive impact on mood. 

Dark Chocolate

If you’re one of these individuals who gets a nice mood boost whenever you sink your teeth into a bar of pure, unadulterated chocolate, it is not happenstance.

There’s actually a chemical reason called anandamide, a neurotransmitter produced in the brain that temporarily blocks feelings of pain and depression. It’s a derivative of the Sanskrit word “bliss,” and one of the great things about chocolate is that it not only produces this compound, it also contains other chemicals that prolongs the “feel-good” aspects of anandamide. Chocolate has even been referred to as “the new anti-anxiety drug.”

Protein

A high-quality source of protein – like organic eggs, a piece of Gouda cheese or a handful of almonds – helps to keep your blood sugar levels steady for enhanced energy and mood.

Bananas

Bananas contain dopamine, a natural reward chemical that boosts your mood. They’re also rich in B vitamins, including vitamin B6, which help to soothe your nervous system, and magnesium, another nutrient associated with positive mood. 

Coffee

Coffee  affects a number of neurotransmitters related to mood control, so drinking a morning cup could have an effect on your general sense of wellbeing. Research has also shown that coffee triggers a mechanism in your brain that releases BDNF, which activates your brain stem cells to convert into new neurons, thereby improving your brain health.  Interestingly enough, research also suggests that low BDNF levels may play a significant role in depression, and that increasing neurogenesis has an antidepressant effect! 

Turmeric (Curcumin)

Curcumin, the pigment that gives the spice turmeric its yellow-orange color, is thought to be the primary component responsible for many of its medicinal effects. Among them, curcumin has neuroprotective properties and may enhance mood and possibly help with depression. 

Purple Berries

Anthocyanins are the pigments that give berries like blueberries and blackberries their deep colour. These antioxidants aid your brain in the production of dopamine, a chemical that is critical to coordination, memory function and your mood.

Animal-Based Omega 3 Fats

Found in salmon or supplement form, such as krill oil, the omega-3 fats EPA and DHA play a role in your emotional well-being. One study showed a dramatic 20 percent reduction in anxiety among medical students taking omega-3, while past research has shown omega-3 fats work just as well as anti-depressants in preventing the signs of depression, but without any of the side effects.

 

Mood-Busting Foods to Avoid

Just as foods can uplift your mood, they can also quickly bring it down. Here are the top three foods that can trigger a poor mood.

Sugar

Sugar can lead to fluctuations in blood sugar, which can bring on mood swings, but its role in poor mood actually goes much deeper than that. Entire books have been written on this topic, such as William Duffy’s book, Sugar Blues. There are at least three potential mechanisms through which refined sugar intake could exert a toxic effect on your mood and mental health:

  • Sugar (particularly fructose) and grains contribute to insulin and leptin resistance and impaired signaling, which play a significant role in your mental health
  • Sugar suppresses activity of BDNF, which promotes the health of your brain neurons. BDNF levels are critically low in both depression and schizophrenia, which animal models suggest might actually be causative
  • Sugar consumption also triggers a cascade of chemical reactions in your body that promote chronic inflammation. In the long term, inflammation disrupts the normal functioning of your immune system, which is linked to a greater risk of depression

Gluten

Gluten, a protein found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley, may negatively impact mood and brain health. In fact, a number of studies indicate that wheat can have a detrimental effect on mood, promoting depression and even more serious mental health problems such as schizophrenia. One mechanism that can help explain the mysterious connection between wheat and mental health problems is the fact that wheat inhibits production of serotonin.

Neurotransmitters like serotonin can be found not just in your brain, but also in your gut. In fact, the greatest concentration of serotonin, which is involved in mood control, depression and aggression, is found in your intestines, not your brain. Wheat in particular has also been implicated in psychiatric problems, from depression to schizophrenia, due to an array of brain-disruptive opioid peptides, and wheat germ lectin (WGA), which preliminary research indicates has neurotoxic activity.

 

Processed Foods

The list of potentially mood-busting ingredients in processed foods is a long one. Aside from sugar and gluten, they may also contain trans fats, artificial colours, monosodium glutamate (MSG), artificial sweeteners and other synthetic ingredients linked to irritability and poor mood.

 

Nourishing Your Gut Health

Your gut can boost your mood and protect your mental health.Toxicity in your gut can flow throughout your body and into your brain, where it can cause symptoms of poor mood, autism, ADHD, depression, schizophrenia and a whole host of other mental and behavioral disorders. With this in mind, it should be crystal clear that nourishing your gut flora is extremely important to support a positive mood. To do so, I recommend the following strategies:

Avoid sugar and processed, refined foods in your diet. There is simply no question that eliminating refined sugars is the most powerful intervention the average person can make to improve their gut flora.

Eat traditionally fermented, unpasteurised foods. Fermented foods are the best route to optimal digestive health, as long as you eat the traditionally made, unpasteurised versions. Ideally, you want to eat a variety of fermented foods to maximise the variety of bacteria you’re consuming. Healthy choices include:

  • Fermented vegetables
  • Lassi (an Indian yoghurt drink, traditionally enjoyed before dinner)
  • Fermented milk, such as kefir
  • Natto (fermented soy)
  • You can also go for various fiber-rich foods like green vegetables and psyllium. Shoot for around 50 grams of fiber per 1,000 calories consumed.
  • Take a high-quality probiotic supplement. Although I’m not a major proponent of taking many supplements (as I believe the majority of your nutrients need to come from food), probiotics is an exception if you don’t eat fermented foods on a regular basis. Research has shown that certain probiotics may help alleviate anxiety by modulating the vagal pathways within the gut-brain, affecting GABA levels, and lowering the stress-induced hormone corticosterone.

To sum up, foods have an immense impact on both your body and your brain, and eating whole foods is the best way to support your mental and physical health. Whether you need a quick pick-me-up or you’ve been struggling with poor mood for a while, the best place to start to turn your mood around is likely not in your medicine cabinet but right in your pantry or refrigerator.

 

6. Look For The Hidden Good

Why a positive mental attitude is indispensable to your success… It is not what happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you—especially when there are unexpected problems.

Here are three things you can do to assure that your attitude is the very best it can be, no matter what the circumstance:

Focus On The Future

Whatever challenges you face, focus on the future rather than on the past. Instead of worrying about who did what and who is to blame, focus on where you want to be and what you want to do. Get a clear mental image of your ideal successful future, and then take whatever action you can to begin moving in that direction. Get your mind, your thoughts and your mental images on the future.

 

Think About The Solution

Whenever you’re faced with a difficulty, focus on the solution rather than on the problem. Think and talk about the ideal solution to the obstacle or setback, rather than wasting time rehashing and reflecting on the problem. Solutions are inherently positive, whereas problems are inherently negative.

Take some time to write out every detail of the problem, and then take the most logical next step to solve it. The instant that you begin thinking in terms of solutions, you become a positive and constructive human being.

 

What Was The Lesson Learned?

Assume that whatever situation you are facing at the moment is exactly the right situation you need to ultimately be successful. This situation has been sent to you to help you learn something, to help you become better, to help you expand and grow.

So seek for the valuable lesson in every adversity. Make a list of every idea or insight you can gain from every setback or difficulty.

A positive mental attitude is indispensable to your success. You can be as positive as you want to be if you will simply think about the future and look for the good. If you do what other successful people do, if you use your mind to exert mental control over the situation, you will be positive and cheerful most of the time. And you will reap the benefits enjoyed by all successful people.

Compared to the average entrepreneur that has their own office, online entrepreneurs need to implement success habits just to be able to make it through the day. Let’s go ahead and get right into the first habit.

 

#1: Online Marketers Exercise Self-Control Throughout the Day

Beyond keeping your emotions in check, here are three more tips for exercising self-control through your day…

  • Check email once every three hours – There are few things that will suck the life out of your day like email. 
  • Keep all social media windows closed – Social media is a great tool for promoting your blog, but it can easily pull you into to an endless scroll of updates. Just like with email, schedule your social media time.
  • Put your phone on silent when your working – If you can eliminate the disruption of email, social media, and phone calls, then you will double your productivity.

 

#2: Online Entrepreneurs Have an Optimistic and Positive Attitude

You need to have a firm belief that you are going to be successful. With a business, you can launch your site and start making sales through Google Adwords that same day. Though it usually takes six months from the moment a new post is published until you can even find out if it will get any traffic from Google.

If you ever feel demotivated, then imagine how it will feel when your blog is bringing in more money than you could possibly spend. In addition, try to read 5 to 10 positive quotes to start every day.

As an Entrepreneur, you need to always be open to learning new techniques and processes that may be better than what you are currently doing now.

Knowledge and action will take you wherever you want to go. Personal obstacles are related to our psychology, behavior, and state-of-mind. They typically include unhelpful habits, debilitating emotions, paralyzing fears and limiting beliefs. The reason these obstacles prevent us from moving forward comes down to how we choose to interpret events and circumstances, and the subsequent thoughts we choose to dwell upon.

The thoughts we typically dwell upon prevent us from making objective decisions. Our poor choices, subsequently lead us down less than optimal paths as we work toward our goals. These thoughts we tend to dwell upon are often recognised as the 10 Cognitive Distortions that sabotage people’s choices and behavior.

Too often we let our mistakes and setbacks define us. Yet, as Dr Martin Seligman, the founder of Positive Psychology once said, “It’s not our failures that determine our future success, but how we explain them to ourselves.”   Likewise, if you knew that no matter what happened, you could handle it, what actions would you take that you aren’t taking now? 

What conversations would you engage in that you’ve been putting off? Where would you step out onto center stage more fully and boldly in your own life – and in doing so, open up the possibility for new opportunities, new relationships, new alliances, new ideas to take bloom?

We are all going to face obstacles in business and life. Embrace them, learn from them, and keep moving forward.

 

#5: Successful Online Entrepreneurs Never Give Up in the Face of Adversity

Achieving a goal is a wildly exhilarating thing. If you’re flirting with the idea of giving up, you could be throwing away something wonderful―your best future. There’s going to be anxiety about uncertainty and fear about failing, but push yourself to keep going. After all, you’ll never know how close you are to succeeding if you quit now.

  • you want a strategy for helping to deal with a tough time
  • you want to boost your mood
  • you want to cultivate awareness and appreciation for the good things in your life.

Increasing your gratitude is useful because:

  • it’s an instant mood booster and feels great in the moment
  • you’re likely to feel closer to friends and family
  • you’re likely to enjoy your life more
  • it’s good for your physical health
  • it’s easier to cope with tough times

These days, work-life balance can seem like an impossible feat. Technology makes workers accessible around the clock. Fears of job loss incentivize longer hours. In fact, a whopping 94% of working professionals reported working more than 50 hours per week and nearly half said they worked more than 65 hours per week in a Harvard Business School survey. 

Experts agree: the compounding stress from the never-ending workday is damaging. It can hurt relationships, health and overall happiness.

  • Unplug
  • Limit time-wasting activities and people
  •  Exercise and meditate

Exercise is crucial for me. I love to surf. The coastal walks near my home are breathtakingly beautiful. I always come back from these two pursuits feeling refreshed and ready to continue on with increased vigour and vitality.

So you’ve just put your finishing touches on that latest blog post, new YouTube video that you know is going to really help all those people on your list, your audience, though upon checking your open rates on your email service provider account, you’re quietly devastated at your low open rates. It hurts doesn’t it!

 

Where are the best subject lines? In your inbox! What makes you click on an email to open it?

 

Advertising legend David Ogilvy once said: 

Five times as many people read the headline as read the body copy. When you have written your headline, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.

 

Like a headline for a blog post or news article, the subject line for your email needs to capture people’s attention and convince them to open your message. A subject line can make or break the performance of your email, so it’s important to spend extra time crafting one that’s memorable and effective.

 

Good subject lines get to the point, create a sense of urgency and are relevant to the subscriber, but it’s easy to make mistakes when writing them. Committing these subject line sins can drastically reduce your open rates, but avoiding them is easy if you know what to look for.

 

Here are five of the most common mistakes people make when writing email subject lines, as well as tips to improve them and boost your open rates.

 

1. Using ALL CAPS or too much punctuation(!!)

Imagine receiving an email with a subject line like this in your inbox: GET 70% OFF YOUR NEXT PURCHASE RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Chances are you would take one of three actions: ignore it, delete it, or mark it as spam.

 

Before pressing send, keep in mind that USING EXCESSIVE CAPITALISATION AND PUNCTUATION SCARES AWAY SUBSCRIBERS AND KILLS OPEN RATES!!!!!

 

It can come across as though you are yelling, which can have a negative impact on your email performance. So you should use capitalisation and punctuation cautiously. 

 

Occasionally adding phrases like “Free” or “Act Now” have been shown to improve open rates, but I recommend using them sparingly to avoid diluting their impact. 

 

On a similar note, be sure to avoid using too much punctuation. You have limited real estate for your subject line, and multiple exclamation marks can come across as spammy. Special characters such as * % & # and ^,  have been known to trigger spam filters, so be sure to use them sparingly as well.

 

Now that we’ve gone over the punctuation mistakes to avoid in your subject line, you may be wondering which characters leads to more open rates.

 

The answer? Question marks, exclamation points and periods. 

 

Subject lines with exclamation points can expect an open rate that’s one to 20 percent higher than average – just as long as you don’t use them in every message.

 

While this can vary depending on your industry, your audience, and the content of your messages, I recommend testing multiple subject lines to see which forms of punctuation your subscribers are more likely to respond to.

 

By using simple language, asking a question, and using proper punctuation in her subject line, you’re able to pique the reader’s interest and entice them to read your message.

 

Exclamation points, periods, and question marks are all part of a healthy email marketing strategy, so don’t be afraid to mix up the punctuation you use in your subject lines.

2. Using Spammy Words

Adding certain trigger words to your subject line can activate a recipient’s spam filter, even if the message you’re sending is legitimate.

 

To prevent this from happening, avoid symbols like “$$$,” “100% free,” “cash off,” “cheap,” “weight loss,” and “serious cash”. Even if your email makes it into the inbox, it can come across as spammy to your subscribers.

 

To ensure your readers take your emails seriously, choose the language of your subject line carefully by avoiding some of the trigger words and symbols listed above.

 

Finding the right verbiage for your subject line can be tough, especially with the sophisticated spam filters out today. HubSpot put together an exhaustive list of email trigger words to avoid when composing your subject line, so reference it before sending your next message.

 

While there are plenty of recommendations for words to avoid in subject lines, there’s no hard and fast rule for ones to include; what works for one industry may not work for another. Be sure to try different variations of words to see what resonates best.

 

I also recommend focusing on specific words that tie back to the content in your email.

 

The subject line tells you exactly what you’ll get by opening up the email. And by focusing on that, it eliminates the risk of including words that might appear spammy.

 

3. Making It Too Long

Consider the environment in which your subscribers are reading your emails. Chances are, they’re on-the-go or quickly scanning their inboxes between work meetings.

 

Since you have only seconds to capture their attention, you want to make sure your subject lines aren’t wordy or redundant.

 

Long subject lines look spammy and get lost in cluttered inboxes, especially if readers are using mobile devices.

 

One favorite rule of thumb is  to keep subject lines no longer than 50 characters. To do so, aim to get your message across as quickly as possible and cut any unnecessary terms or phrases.

 

As important as it is to get your message across quickly and clearly, make sure it expresses a complete thought and offers value to the reader – you don’t want to write a subject line that’s too short, either. Avoid one-word subject lines and strive to be helpful and relevant to your subscriber.

 

Try building a message around a numbered list and including the word “secrets,” As a result, this subject line is easily readable and irresistibly clickable!

 

4. Writing misleading content

Let’s say you send an email with the following subject: Get an exclusive 50% discount on our entire inventory!

 

But when the reader opens the email, it’s a pitch to sign up for a webinar or free online class.

 

Not only is this tactic dishonest, it also tends to backfire. No one likes to be deceived, especially when they receive an email that promises one thing and delivers another. You might get people to open your email initially, but this alienates subscribers and can hurt your open rates and spam rates in the long run.

 

If your subscribers lose trust in your emails, they’re more inclined to ignore future emails and mark you as spam.

 

To build and maintain trust between you and your subscriber, make sure to align the content of your email and your subject line.

 

Also avoid subject lines that include RE: or FW:

 

These tend to trick the reader into thinking the email was part of another conversation, which doesn’t leave a positive feeling with subscribers.

 

Not including this text also gives you more room to work with in your subject line, which can be used to convey helpful and relevant information instead.

 

5. Including spelling or grammatical errors

Subject lines (or any other content in your email) with typos, misspelled words, and misplaced punctuation look unprofessional and can hurt your open rates.

 

Emails are an opportunity to establish your brand as a helpful source of information. Subject lines with spelling or syntax errors make a bad first impression, and undermine your ability to establish trust with your subscribers.

 

To optimise your email open rates, be sure to review your emails for grammar and spelling prior to hitting send. No one will take the time to read your email if the subject line is loaded with grammar mistakes, but basic copy editing can prevent these errors from slipping through the cracks.

 

Crafting subject lines that sweep subscribers off their feet…

 

The subject line is one of email’s most important components, so it’s important to get it right before you send your emails. And by avoiding the mistakes above, you’ll be well on your way towards improving your email engagement.

Today’s post is all about the struggles of an internet marketer. Why we do what we do…. And how to maintain those productivity levels. When we become dissatisfied change has to happen.

Luckily, I never miss the days I used to work in the office. I had great times with my colleagues, but those days feel well behind me, and I feel perfectly comfortable working alone now. There are a few things I’m glad I no longer have to be part of. As a full-time online marketer, I spend most of the day communicating with others by email or on online chat. I barely speak to anyone on the phone or face to face that I might forget my own voice one of these days…

 

But not everyone is like me. Those who are extroverts often crave for hangouts, and a lot of my fellow online entrepreneurs deliberately make time to meet up with friends for lunch to keep their sanity. And I do agree. You need to have real conversations daily (not necessarily verbally), to ensure you’re not turning into a weirdo. 

 

 

I love working out – without my beach running surfing and gym exercise, I would definitely go crazy. If you don’t normally move around much, just getting out of the house to walk for 15 minutes should help circulate more oxygen in your blood stream, and release serotonin to motivate yourself. Serotonin is something that your body naturally produces. They help you motivate big time, too.

Working from home means you can work whatever way you want. You can work in pyjamas, or on your bed with your laptop without creating a work environment. Sounds good, right? But there’s no motivation factor in that kind of “no boundary” working lifestyle.

 

Patience is the key to success particularly in online business. Being patient does not mean you have to be agitated or frustrated. Everyone has to fail at some point to be successful, and has to learn from mistakes.

 

Be patient and stay focused on your goals – that’s the way to motivate yourself for business.

 

How to avoid becoming paralyzed by too many ideas

 

If you are a creative, you most likely the type that has so many ideas.

 

While it may seem like a blessing, it often feels like a curse and that you aren’t actually moving or taking action. You feel scattered, confused and overwhelmed.

 

I am no stranger to the overwhelming sensation that too many ideas can bring.

 

I have loved this journey of starting my business so far, however sometimes I feel paralyzed and pulled too many directions. While it is an exciting place to be, it is best to develop a process to help tame those ideas, and avoid becoming paralyzed.

Keep a running list. Your notes are just for you, so don’t allow negativity to creep in! Be bold in your future goals. If I get really invested in an idea up front, I like to get as specific as I can in the brainstorming phase. You can also reference these notes anytime you have a sudden hit of inspiration.

 

Don’t act too fast!

 

Though your new idea to open up a shop, start an e-course, or offer a new service seems great up front, I encourage you to take a bit of time to meditate on your new idea.

 

You want to give yourself enough time to do the research and develop a strategy to implement your new idea.

 

During this time, you can really hone in on the details of this project, as well as develop a marketing plan for it. This doesn’t have to be elaborate, but it helps to be strategic in building excitement over your new product/service/idea!

 

If you run your own business, chances are, you’re completely overwhelmed pretty much all the time. I know I am. 

 

 

Because no matter much you get done, it seems like your to-do list just grows longer and longer. There are blog posts to write, emails to respond to, social media posts to schedule, products to create. You need to be organized, not overwhelmed.

 

Most overwhelm comes from feeling like you have so much to do that you can’t do it all. When your to-do list is swirling around in your head, it can feel like everything you need to get done gets bigger and more urgent by the minute.

 

The solution? Get your to-do list out of your head and onto paper.

 

Action, not anxiety!

 

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel super busy and stressed, but when you look back over your day, you don’t even know what you got done? I get so caught up in feeling stressed about everything I have to do that I don’t actually do any of it. I’ll have a project to start that feels so big and overwhelming that I never start it. And then, like something out of a horror movie, the more I put off the project, the bigger and more overwhelming it becomes.

 

It’s a vicious cycle that only has one solution: action. Just the simple act of starting- something, anything- helps you build the inertia you need to keep going. So when you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, look at the list you made and just start. Progress, not perfection.

 

I struggle with this one every damn day and I know I’m not alone here. As creative entrepreneurs, we put our souls into our work, so of course everything we do should be perfect, right? Wrong. Sometimes (ok, most of the time) perfection isn’t about quality work, it’s about ego. At least it is for me. I want my work to be perfect because I want to be perfect. Which is obviously impossible (not to mention insane.)

 

And when we get like that, when we obsess over formatting, or reread the same email seven times, or strain our eyes making sure our blog graphic is centered – it keeps us from doing the real, important work that we’re meant to do.

 

Choose progress, not perfection.

 

The next time you’re stuck in that obsessive cycle of making sure it’s absolutely perfect, ask yourself: Does this actually need to be perfect? Or does it just need to be done?

 

Some things do need to be perfect. When I’m proofreading a document before it goes to print for a client, then yes, it needs to be perfect. But if I’m honest with myself, the majority of my work doesn’t require that level of flawlessness, and I doubt much of yours does either.

 

So yes, it’s important that we care, deeply, about putting out quality work. But it’s worth the reminder: just because it’s not perfect, doesn’t mean it’s not good enough.

as long as you set it up correctly to begin with…

Early Warning Bell: Don’t be fooled. Some of these principles will seem like fundamentals – Clearly obvious must do’s.

The reason that I’m giving them kudos here is that they deserve it and are often overlooked. Without applying the correct strategies from the get-go, your campaigns will only ever be average.

 

1.Your only goal: To generate as much business from your advertising budget – enabling you to achieve superb and ongoing results.

 

If you apply these principles and stay committed to monitoring them regularly, you will stand head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.

 

As Google love to tell you in their marketing blurbs, you don’t necessarily have to spend a fortune on AdWords to get a lot more oomph out of your pay-per-click advertising.

 

Still, even if you have the smallest of daily budgets, you have an obligation to yourself and your business to make sure your money is not being wasted. You also want to ensure that the “right” people are clicking on your AdWords campaigns.

 

By using Google AdWords correctly, you appear in the sponsored listings (these are displayed above and alongside the organic listings that also appear on the page.)

 

Again, this may sound expensive, though if managed properly, the money you spend can be very reasonable – taking your business or your brand into achieving real visibility and pulling in the targeted traffic that you need for true online success.

4. Organise Your Ad Groups

Using AdWords (or any PPC platform) requires time and money, but thousands of businesses have found that it’s time and money well spent, because AdWords delivers measurable ROI.

 

A common method for organising an AdWords account is to organise with a category or business goal in mind. For many businesses, the way your website is structured is a good place to start, where each ad group representing a different page or category on your site.

 

Ad groups can help ensure that your ads are relevant to your keywords. For example, for your camera campaign, you may want to create separate ads for digital cameras and compact cameras.

 

You can create ad groups for each type of camera, each with its own set of focused, relevant keywords. For example if it was a television campaign, you can also create an ad group for each type of television you sell, such as flat screen and plasma TVs.

 

You can also set prices for individual keywords within the ad group.

 

5. How To Create An Ad Group:

• Sign in to your AdWords account.

• Click the Campaigns tab.

• Under All campaigns, click the name of the campaign that you’d like to add an ad group to.

• Click the Ad group’s tab.

• Click the + Ad group button.

On the “Create ad group” page that appears, follow the instructions to complete your new ad group (you’ll be given the chance to create an initial ad and its keywords).

Click Save ad group.

 

For instance, you are selling surfboards for both men and women. You set two different campaigns, one for men’s surf -boards and the other for women’s surfboards.

 

Let’s name them Men’s Surfboard Campaign and Women’s Surfboard Campaign. You have beginner’s surfboards, Intermediate Surfboards and Performance Surfboards for both men and women.

 

 

Now you create 3 ad groups based on these categories (Beginners, Intermediate and Performance) in both the campaigns.

Let’s name these 6 ad groups as:

• Men’s Beginners Surfboards
• Men’s Intermediate Surfboards
• Men’s Performance Surfboards

• Women’s Beginners Surfboards
• Women’s Intermediate Surfboards
• Women’s Performance Surfboards

• Now you have 6 ad groups, each of them has two key components, ads, and keywords

6. How many keywords should be in my ad group?

The best rule of thumb is to use no more than 20 keywords per ad group.

Sometimes you can get away with using a few more, but exceeding a 20 keyword limit is a sign that your ad copy isn’t matching the keyword being searched as closely as it could.

 

7. Strategies to optimise your ad groups:

• Identify an ad group per keyword group (theme)

• Add diverse titles and texts for your ads.

• Remember to integrate your keywords into the URL’s that will appear on your ads.

• Use a variety of targeting and ad extension options to the ad group theme.

That translates to 95 percent of blogs being essentially abandoned, left alone on the Web, where they become public remnants of a dream — or at least an ambition — unfulfilled.

 

Judging from conversations with retired bloggers, many people who assumed that once they started blogging, the world would swiftly beat a path to their digital door. For large numbers though, this has clearly not been the case.

 

I’ve personally tried literally, every method on the Internet.

 

Now my blog posts do very well…

 

However, I want to let you know, that it didn’t happen overnight and it took much testing, failing and beginning all over again.

 

So here we go: These tips, if followed, are really going to assist you in getting far more eyes on your content and building your online presence. Let’s get started!

 

1: Publish More Articles

 

One of the most effective, but often ignored, ways to get traffic to a blog is by publishing more articles; research from Hubspot has shown that businesses that publish 16+ blog posts monthly get 3.5 times more traffic and 4.5 times more leads than businesses that publish between 0 – 5 blog posts monthly.

 

Seven-figure blogger Neil Patel also revealed that his monthly traffic went from 46,134 visitors to 59,787 visitors because he increased content frequency from one article to two articles weekly.

 

No matter your niche, research has shown that publishing more content will always lead to an increase in traffic for you; increase your content frequency to two or more articles a week, and you’ll notice a significant increase in traffic to your blog.

 

2: Publish Longer Content

Research has shown that Google and other search engines give preference to longer, comprehensive articles; research by serpIQ that analyzed top 10 results for over 20,000 keywords found that Google ranks content that have more than 2,000 words better than content with fewer words.

 

Research by Buzzsumo, in a partnership with Moz, which analyzed over 1 million articles, found that articles that are 3,000 – 10,000 words get twice as many shares and three times the links content that have fewer than 1,000 words get.

 

3: Ask Podcast shows to interview you

Similar to being interviewed on sites, you can ask podcast shows to interview you; many podcasters, myself included, will happily oblige if they find that you have an exciting story.

 

 

4: Promote Your Blog on Pinterest

Pinterest can be a great source of traffic to your blog and many bloggers have leveraged it to massively boost their blog traffic. 

 

 

Use Canva.com (There is a specific Pinterest template over at Canva you can use for this!)

 

Look for quality interesting images, and focus on using irresistible headlines and you’ll be getting quality Pinterest traffic in no time.

 

5: Effectively Leverage Email Signatures

 

Many of us interact with hundreds or even thousands of emails every month; these are some nice eyeballs for your blog, and you can convert them to readers by including a link to your blog in your email signature.

 

6: Focus on the Mobile Experience

Research shows that the number of mobile Internet users has now exceeded the number of desktop internet users.

 

Google also recently made an upgrade to their algorithm that favoured sites that were optimised for mobile users and that penalized sites that were not optimised for mobile users. Some sites lost as much as 46.6% of their search traffic due to not having a mobile-optimised site while some gained as much as 30.1% traffic by having a mobile-friendly website.

 

7: Constantly Refresh Old Posts

One of Google’s ranking factors is content freshness, and this reportedly affects as much as 35% of Google searches; this supports research from Hubspot that shows that blogs that publish 16+ articles monthly get 3.5X more traffic than blogs that publish less than 4 articles monthly.

 

One way to benefit from Google’s freshness algorithm is by publishing more articles on your blog, while another way is by updating old articles; review articles you published months and years ago, eliminate outdated information and bring them forward. This will impact your blog’s search rankings and lead to more traffic.

 

8: Improve Your Headlines

Do you know that a simple headline change can result in a massive boost in traffic to your blog?

 

 According to Copyblogger, on average, 8 out of 10 people will read your headline but only 2 out of 10 will read your content.

9: Link to A Lot of Authoritative Sources

Google uses a lot of factors to rank websites, including how many links points to a website, but very few people know that Google also ranks you based on how many people you link to.

 

If your website constantly links to authoritative websites and resources that are relevant to your niche, Google will assume that you’re a good and authoritative resource in your niche, and they’ll rank you better as a result; this, in turn, will lead to more traffic for you.

 

10.Don’t Ignore Basic SEO

Many bloggers ignore basic SEO, and they eventually suffer from it. Most successful bloggers get as much as 50% or more of their traffic from search engines; taking the right measures when it comes to SEO can double your blog traffic within a short period of time.

 

Things like using the right title tags, having a catchy description, ensuring that your site is easy to navigate, etc, can lead to a significant increase in traffic to your blog.

 

11: Use the Yoast.com  Wordpress plug in (This is a must for your website, and yes, it’s free!)

12: Write for the Scanner

Research shows that on average, most web users won’t read more than 28% of words on a website; in other words, while having longer, comprehensive articles will help your search engine rankings it won’t increase the chances of your content being read; the more people read your content, the more people will share it and the more traffic you will get.

 

The solution to this problem is to write your content for scanners.

 

Using headings and sub headings, bold, italics, numberings and bullets, you can make your blog content more presentable and scannable, and as a result boost traffic to your blog. Look at apple.com for inspiration when it comes to the perfect use of white space.

 

Edit ruthlessly

13: Use Images in ALL Your Blog Posts

Research shows that articles with images get 94% more views compared to articles without images. Make sure every article on your blog include one or relevant and appealing image, and this will significantly boost traffic to your blog.

 

Finding an online library stocked with pictures that are of high quality and available to use for free can be a daunting task.

 

A free image directory allows you to easily and quickly access pictures that are not just relevant and top quality but add more meaning, taste, and eloquence to your message.

 

 

In our visual world, having striking images and photos are vital in engaging your audience. Here are the 7 sites that I use for finding those free images that create a great visual impression.

First, there are no restrictions – you do not need to credit the author when using images from this website.

 

New photos are uploaded every day and organised accordingly. They have amazing pictures with a wide range e.g. roads, food, fashion, wedding, technology, business etc.

 

PEXELS.COM

 

This is one of the largest free image directories. It has collated photos from many other free image sites and put them under one roof. So if you are in a rush, then this will work very well with you.

 

 

FREEMEDIAGOO.COM

 

They upload high quality illustrations of backgrounds and manyother photos. They have plenty of visual mediums you can choose from. Images have no restrictions.

 

 

PIXABAY.COM

 

Easy to download photos. They focus more on abstract shots, architecture, landscape, nature, backgrounds and patterns etc. You do not any to create an account.

 

FREEPHOTOSBANK.COM

 

Easy to download photos. They focus more on abstract shots, architecture, landscape, nature, backgrounds and patterns etc. You do not any to create an account.

 

 

STOCKSNAP.IO

 

StockSnap.io has a large selection of beautiful free stock photos and high resolution images.

 

The site also has a very handy search feature making it easy to browse through the thousands of images available. In addition, the site tracks views and downloads so you can find the most popular photos available.

 

StockSnap adds hundreds of images on a daily basis and all photos are released under creative commons public domain – no attribution required.

Free stock photos. A quick note on licenses: all the images here at Unsplash are free stock photos.

 

However, the license may vary. Many are “Creative Commons Zero,” which means they are free to use for any purpose, including commercial, with no attribution required.

 

 

14: Make your website faster

A one second delay in website loading time will result in a 7 percent loss in conversion, and that slow websites cost the U.S. e-commerce market $500 billion annually.

 

Not just this, but you’ll also lose 40 percent of visitors to your website if it takes longer than 3 seconds to load. If your website is slow, then you’re already losing half your visitors.

 

Make your website faster and watch your traffic increase significantly.

 

15: Create a weekly schedule

Repurpose your content for all the various mediums out there…

 

1 x YouTube Video (embed into new blog post)

1 x Blog Post  

1 x Podcast Episode  

 1 x email list (Publish to your email list)

 1 x add post to your Google My Business blog section

Quora is a question-and-answer site where questions are asked, answered, edited and organized by its community of users, and it drives loads of traffic!
